University of Ruhuna played significant role in e-Society exhibition-2004 at BMICH on 13 to15 Aug. 2004

Department of Computer Science of the University of Ruhuna was one of the exhibitors at the e-Society exhibition-2004. The stall of the department focused on the use of open source with the Internet technology and was very attractive for the spectators significantly making a difference among the other exhibitors who were pioneers in ICT industry, leading universities and other educational institutes.

Thousands of inquiries we received proved that we brought up a ray of hope to initiate and invoke the attitude of using open source software among professionals as well as beginners to the industry.

Our demonstrations - Prototype of the Internet, Library information system, Lecture Theater Scheduling System and Departmental Course Information System - which were built and operated completely under open source software successfully faced the challenge of breaking the myths related with commercial software.

Physical Science undergraduate invented a new equepment called Dike Cutting Machine

This is a high quality efficient new equipment which can be used in Agriculture, especially in reconstructing narrow embankments raised in paddy-fields etc.,(dikes - which serve to dam in water and as pathways through the fields). I, Dilan Dhammika,  who invented this machine am a student of the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, reading for a degree in Physical Science.  I have received the patent right No. 12827 for this dike cutting machine. Using this dike cutting machine, which can be adjusted to any angle necessary, dikes can be cut in an area of about 5-6 acres a day.

What is needed now is a recognized company which can join with me to introduce this equipment to the market.

Furthermore, I have invented a number of other useful equipments. I am very much interested in joining a foreign University in order to improve the quality of other inventions while continuing my higher studies.
