The Scientific Workshop on ‘Coral Reef Ecology

In a bid to promote understanding and conservation of coral reef ecosystems, a comprehensive workshop on coral reef ecology was held on 6 th June, 2023 at the Blue Meeting Rooms, Hilton Colombo. This workshop sponsored by the China Sri Lanka joint Center for Education and Research (CSL-CER), University of Ruhuna (UOR) and South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and hosted by the CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. Scientists, marine biologists, and passionate environmentalists gathered to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and explore strategies to safeguard these fragile underwater habitats. The workshop served as a platform to empower participants with the necessary tools to protect and preserve coral reefs in the face of environmental challenges. Presentations and interactive sessions were covered various topics, including the biodiversity of coral reefs, the impact of climate change, pollution, innovative conservation approaches and Current and future aspects of Coral reefs in Sri Lanka.
