    Vacancy for Graduate Research Assistant (Protected Agriculture)

     

    About the project: This research project focuses on design, construct, and evaluate the cost effective self-cooling poly tunnel structure for the low-country wet zone in Sri Lanka. The specific objectives of the present study will be,

    • To compare morphological and physiological performances of scotch bonnet (Capsicum chinense var. Dark) under two different microclimatic conditions created by the tunnel structures.
    • To calculate fertilizer use efficiency (ie: nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus) of scotch bonnet (Capsicum chinense).
    • To calculate cost of production and cost: benefit ratio of the production cycles of scotch bonnet (Capsicum chinense) under two different tunnel structures

    Duration: one year

    Key responsibilities:

    • Coordinating research activities of the project
    • Collecting relevant data
    • Performing both field and laboratory experiments
    • Contributing to research report writing and peer reviewed publications

    Required qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or relevant field
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
    • Preference will be given to those who are enthusiastic, hardworking and conversant in field work, automation and polytunnel farming
    • Prior experience in statistical analysis and conducting research in polytunnel farming is a plus.

    Monthly stipend: 60,000.00 LKR
