Ruhuna Invention and Innovation Exhibition 2023 (RIIE-2023)

    Ruhuna Invention and Innovation Exhibition is organized by the University of Ruhuna, collaborating with Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, Southern Province Industrial Development Authority, Southern Province Education Ministry, and Department. The main objective of this event is to uplift the talents of new inventors in the southern province by providing valuable recognition for their inventions. The financial support was given by Technology Transfer Unit, under AHEAD funds, Ruhuna University.

    The RIIE-2023 was held on 05th June 2023 at the premises of the Department of Physics University of Ruhuna with the participation of the Governor of the Sothern Province, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, and many other distinguished guests and general public. There were more than 750 inventions or innovations in various fields at the exhibition from School students, University and Tertiary educational institutes, Other institutes, and Open and Commercialized categories.

    A Brief Summary of the 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony

     

    The 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony of the University of Ruhuna was held on 07th June 2023. The event was hosted by the Faculty of Management and Finance and concluded with a remarkable achievement. Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna participated as the Chief Guest to grace occasion. Professor Saman Chandana Ediriweera, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna participated as the Guest of Honour of the ceremony. The Keynote Speech was delivered by Dr. Chandra Embuldeniya, The Founder Vice Chancellor, Uva Wellassa University on “Intellectual and Entrepreneurial Thrust for a Resilient and Progressive Society.” The Oration was delivered by Dr. A.M.S.S. Amarasiri, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Ruhuna on “Unraveling the mystery in search of nephroprotective therapeutics from Sri Lankan flora.” The scholars were awarded for their outstanding performance under the categories of the Most Outstanding Scholar (Prof. Sudhira De Silva, Faculty of Engineering), the Most Outstanding Young Researcher (Mr. W.A.H.M. Karunarathne, Faculty of Technology), the Most Outstanding Student Inventor/Innovator (Mr. A.G.P.D. Alahakoon, Faculty of Graduate Studies), the Highest Recipient of Grants (Prof. W.A. Indika, Faculty of Science), and the Most Outstanding Promoter of International Relations (Prof. D.A.L. Leelamanie, Faculty of Agriculture). Senior Professor L.M. Abeywickrama, Senior Professor C.M. Navarathna, Senior Professor E.A.G. Fonseka, Senior Professor R.P. Dharmawathie, and Prof. S.K.C. Wimalasundara were conferred to Emeritus Professorships.

    The Vice Chancellor of UoR recently visited Bhutan to fulfill a WHO assignment in the elimination of Measles, Rubella, and Congenital Rubella Syndrome. He is a member of the Regional Verification Commission for Elimination of Measles, Rubella, and Congenital Rubella Syndrome of South East Asia Region (RVC-SEAR) since 2015
