Inauguration ceremony of the TROPIMUNDO Master Degree Programme

TROPIMUNDO is a European Commission funded and excellence-labelled Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems (https://www.tropimundo.eu/ ). We welcomed the second batch of the TROPIMUNDO Master Degree Programme students to the University of Ruhuna on 09^th April 2021 with the participation of the Vice Chancellor, Snr. Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saman Chandana Ediriweera, the Local Coordinators of the programme, Snr Prof. L. P. Jayatissa and Dr. K. A. Sunanda Kodikara.

International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment-ISAE 2021

International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment-ISAE 2021 was held on 7^th May 2021, as a virtual conference. The Theme of the ISAE 2021 was “Challenges in Agriculture: impact, resilience and adaptation for sustainability”.  Hon Minister of Environment Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera graced the event as the Chief Guest while Prof. David Rowlings, school of Biology and Environmental science, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Queensland University of Technology, Australia delivered the keynote speech of the Inaugural Session.

Scientists around the globe, including three keynote speakers from Australia, Japan and Bangladesh presented their novel research findings under the seven thematic areas; plant, soil and environment, crop production technologies, agribusiness and entrepreneurship, challenges in agriculture, food and nutrition, livestock, poultry and aquaculture and innovative technologies.

Faculty of Science welcomed the second batch of students for the European Commission-funded TROPIMUNDO Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems. The official ceremony was held on on 09^th April 2021 with the participation of the Vice Chancellor, Snr. Ruhuna International Science and Technology Conference- RISTCON 2021

The 8^th Ruhuna International Science and Technology Conference (RISTCON 2021), organized by the Faculty of Science was held on 17th of February 2021. Vice Chancellor Snr. Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena and His Excellency, Mr. Eric Livertu. Ambassador of France graced the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and the guest of honour, respectively. The Keynote Speech of the RISTCON-2021 was delivered by a renowned scientist, Dr. Daniel Gorman, CSIRO, The University of Western Australia, Crawley, Australia. An eminent ornithologist, Professor Ragupathy Kannan, University of Arkansas Fort-Smith, Arkansas, USA delivered a plenary lecture. Around 150 academics, researchers, postgraduates, industry experts and policy makers representing a diverse range of disciplines participated the conference.
